The new Millennium - then and now 20 years on
Looking back to the turn of the century as far as the parish council goes, the accounts for 1999/2000 saw a start to that 12 month period with the council holding an opening balance in hand of £1241. The precept for that year was £1700. Bank interest then was £45, compared to just £7 twenty years later in 2019/2020.
In 1999 the council were preparing for the celebrations planned to mark the arrival of the year 2000 and the new millennium, and had produced a special Plumtree mug that was selling at £3.50 each.
A sum of £117 was spent by the parish council on the purchase of Spring bulbs to be planted at various points around the village.
The insurance costs for the year were £141, compared to a figure of nearly £400 twenty years later. Total expenditure that year was £1250 compared to something in the region of £5000 for 2020. And the council finished the year with a balance in hand of £1887, some £600 more than the start figure.
The parish clerk in 1999-2000 was Rosemary Jordan.
